THE MEETING WAS OVER, and her father shook hands with the parents of the murdered young women.

"Officer Shea shall we go." Katherina turned to Officer White and nodded, and they walked out together. She saw Hyde helping his grandmother into the carriage.

"See you tomorrow afternoon." She said to him. Hyde nodded and waved at her.

"See you tomorrow, Officer Shea. Officer White watch over her." Hyde said. Officer White took off his hat and nodded.

"You can count on me, Mister Hyde." Officer White said. Katherina got into Officer White's car unassisted and watched Hyde drive away with his mother and grandmother as she waited.

"Katherina, can I ask you something?" She noted that Officer White addressed her by first name, which meant she could expect a personal question.

"Sure you can ask me anything." She said. He nodded and released the button on the motor. The automobile left the town hall.

"Do you know that I sent you several marriage proposals? Before my mother took matters into her own hand." He asked her and she nodded.

"I know, but Daniel I have never said yes or no. I which I have done with all the other proposals, this is because I am not really thinking about getting married." She said.

"You think about it now. Now that you know, Hyde." He said. Katherina looked at Officer White, was he jealous of Hyde? He had said he liked Hyde a few days ago.

"Not at all." She said. That was not a lie. "Hyde and I are friends, if it turns out to be anything more than you will be the first to know. No wait, you will know it after we ourselves know and our parents. Right after ourselves and my parents." Officer White started to chuckle.

"But I already know, you were all glowing in the town hall when he spoke to you. Katherina, you may not know it yourself, but you are head over heels." He said. Katherina tilted her head slightly, then looked at the houses darting past her. In love, what did he mean?
